Towards a Data-Driven Approach for Fraud Detection in the Social Insurance Field: A Case Study in Upper Austria Chapter uri icon

abstract

  • In many countries across the world, the national insurance industry can be considered an essential element of the welfare system. There is, though, not much empirical research on how identity deception can be avoided. And the few recent publications are on the hand of workers or suppliers to prevent fraud. The goal of this research is to explain the experiences when developing and adopting a statistics-driven fraud prevention strategy but concerning companies who do not fulfill their responsibilities. In essence, we are presenting a case study nowadays in Upper Austria, but where we can draw valuable conclusions to be implemented in a wide variety of different circumstances.
